KAITIAKITANGA

How did we show kaitiakitanga on the island? We were taught how they're restoring the Island to bring the native stuff back.

How did we show sustainability on quail island?
We respected the rules of the Island. We also did not touch things we were not meant to touch.

How did we show Rahui Tapu on Quail Island?

We did not complain about things or about where we wanted to go. But instead listened to our guide. We did as we were told, and did not climb any trees.

QUAIL ISLAND Thinglink

In year 8 kete we have been learning about Kaitiakitanga. Meaning guardian ship towards earth. So the year 8 classes we went to Quail Island to study about leprosy and the antarctic practicing here  with dogs (huskies) and Ponies. I have made a thinglink about quail island. If you want to tinker with thinglink I will leave a link!

THINGLINK

REPORT ON SHIPS GRAVEYARD

In total there are 18 boats. When the tide is high you can not see any
boats. But when the tide is low enough you can see 4 boats. I chose the ships
graveyard because I thought it was an amazing thing to learn about. 1902 is when
the Maori started to dump their boats here to let the sea take them away but left the boats stranded on Quail Island.

REPORT ON WALKERS BEACH

Walkers Beach was First used by Mr R J Walker when he won the right
to take shell grit for chicken feed. Mr Walker was the first person to take shell grit from the island. After eight or nine months it was closed to shell gathering because of damage.

Stand by me Kete

Learning outcome. I think my learning outcome is L.O 3. Explain ways in which you can take responsibility for your own well-being during adolescence.
This shows I understand how I can explain things in clear content. I am thinking about what affect this will have on my life.

Description of the job
Physician or Surgeon. Physicians and surgeons diagnose and treat injuries or illnesses. Physicians examine patient. Take medical histories. Prescribe medications, and order perform and interpret diagnostic tests. They often counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive healthcare.

Someone who has the job
Claudius Amyand was a French born English surgeon who performed the first recorded successful *big word*. Amyand was born around 1680, the son of Isaac Amyand and Anne Hottot in Mornac, Saintonge, France. As Huguenots, the Amyand's escaped to England following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685 and settled in London.  Claudius was naturalised at Westminster on 9 September 1698. He became a surgeon, served with the army during the War of the Spanish Succession, and was appointed Sergeant Surgeon to George I in 1715. He would continue in this post under George II retaining it for the rest of his life. He became first the Warden and later the Master of the Company of Barber-Surgeons. He was first Principal Surgeon to the Westminster Hospital, and founder and first Principal Surgeon to St George's Hospital. On 5 April 1716 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society under the name Claude Amyand.

What you think of the job
I think being a surgeon would be awesome. I choose to study a surgeon because I like the Chicago med. The surgeon is my new favourite job I used to like to be a marine biologist.

*sorry for the inconvenience but I can't say big words*

Letter To Mrs Elley

Hornby High School
180 Waterloo Road
Hornby
Christchurch 8042

16 June 2017

Dear Mrs Elley

I think we should be aloud to wear sneakers to school. We should be aloud to wear sneakers because it saves us from swapping shoes all the time. It also saves time for teachers.

I think we should wear sneakers around school because it would be more comfortable. It will also let us run faster and get fit without doing fitness.

For tech we would change into our leather shoes. It would be more safe for tech. Around school sneakers for running to get all the energy we have, out of our system.

Wearing sneaker on hot days will not make our feet smell.

But wearing leather shoes on hot sunny days makes our feet feel hot and muggy.

Goodbye Old School, Hello New School

12-5-2017
These two pictures are of the construction near the library. But as of Monday the 15th of may there will be no library.

The two pictures above are the corridors. But now the corridors here are gone but there is a lot of rubble. JUST FOR A CORRIDOR!

The pictures here are of near the old office. As you can tell it looks like an earthquake had just hit our school. This office used to be the most busiest buildings of them all. It had everything including the nurse room.

This picture is of the old entrance. We as a community all was used this gate now we can't

This picture (not including the trees) is a whole view of the construction. The whole front view of the gate is the best view of the school!

SONG

ROCKABYE

I like this cover because she expresses herself and I just love her voice

WIND

WHY DOES WIND EXIST???
Wind is caused by differences in the atmospheric pressure. When a difference in atmospheric pressure exists, air moves from the higher to the lower pressure area, resulting in winds of various speeds. On a rotating planet, air will also be deflected by the Coriolis effect, except exactly on the equator.

WHAT IS THE PHYSICS OF THE WIND???
When this air is heated up by the sun, it rises and is replaced by new cool air that rushes in. Usually, wind blows from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. The Coriolis Effect is the curve of the winds to the right or left due to the spin of the earth.

GOOD EFFECTS OF WIND???
Wind energy comes from the sun. As solar radiation heats the earth’s surface, hot air rises and cool air fills the voids. This air movement is defined as wind energy. Wind that is harnessed via mechanical means is also referred to as wind energy.

BAD EFFECTS OF WIND???
Most of us know how powerful wind is and how devastating it can be when unleashed in vulnerable areas. But wind is also a valuable source of kinetic energy. Humans have harnessed energy from the wind for centuries. We’ve all seen the picturesque windmills gently turning in colorful tulip fields in Holland. Windmills have historically been used to pump water or grind grain and are still used for those purposes. But the more modern windmills that use a wind turbine are able to generate electricity.
